Hill and Down Fingering Wool

Hill and Down Fingering Wool

Hill & Down Fingering is a rustic single ply yarn with good structure, crisp stitch definition, and lots of bounce. 100% grown and spun in Alberta out of a collection of rare and heritage wool breeds originating from the British Hills and Dorset Downs.

Down type wools are usually overlooked in textiles production, and are often treated as agricultural waste or a by-product of meat farming, which is a horrible shame. What these wools lack in fine softness, they more than make up for in other qualities. Down type wools have amazing natural memory and elasticity, creating durable, wrinkle free fabrics. They resist pilling and felitng, are easy to wash, and come in some truly gorgeous natural colors.

By purchasing and using this yarn, you not only save this incredible natural resource from the landfill or burn pile, you are also support the small family farms who are keeping these heritage breeds of sheep alive.
