Structure Session: Weaving Historical Patterns

Structure Session: Weaving Historical Patterns

Date: April 28
Time: 6:00PM-7:30PM MST

With Jamie Hurlburt

All Structure Sessions will be held via Zoom. A link will be sent out the day of the session to the email used when you place your order. The recording will be sent out after the session and you will have access to the recording for one month.

Description:

Historical weaving patterns are an absolute treasure trove of design possibilities… if you can decipher them!

This session will cover practical advice on how to interpret and adapt older patterns so that you can weave them comfortably and correctly. Drawing on examples from the late 1700s through to the 1940s, Jamie will share common differences between historical and current draft and pattern writing.

We’ll cover:

  • Rising shed vs sinking shed tie ups
  • Compact overshot notation
  • Weaving from profile drafts and sketches
  • Understanding naming conventions
  • Troubleshooting pattern errors

To keep things practical, Jamie will provide examples of real drafts that we can wrestle with together, gaining hands on experience translating drafts into familiar modern formats. You’ll leave knowing how to actually weave those mysterious patterns in the books on your shelf!

Weavers of all experience level are welcome to join. To get the most out of the session, it’s best to come in with a basic understanding of how to read standard modern drafts.
